CCSS registers application of 2,812,795 doses of vaccine against covid-19

San José, Jul 20 ( –The teams of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) register the application of 2,812,795 doses of the vaccine against covid-19 in our country, thanks to the placement, only during the previous week, 206,004 doses; This was announced this morning by Dr. Mario Ruiz Cubillo, the institution’s medical manager.

As explained by the official, of the total registered doses 1 982 452 correspond to people who, thanks to the first dose, have already started their protection scheme against covid-19. While 830 343 are people who have already completed the scheme, which will allow them to reach the maximum level of individual immunity against covid-19.

“Thanks to these indicators, we can say that 2 out of 5 of the people who are part of the target population to be vaccinated in our country have already received at least one dose of protection against covid-19,” said Dr. Ruiz.

Currently, in Costa Rica the vaccines developed by Pfizer-BioNTech and AstraZeneca-Oxford are being applied, which require the application of two doses to achieve maximum protection against severe complications of the disease and the risk of death that the action can produce. of the Sars-CoV-2 virus in the body.

In the distribution by age ranges, in the group of people aged 58 and over, 733,866 have already received the first dose of the covid-19 vaccine (9 out of 10 people in the projected target population), while 708 574 people have already received the second dose.

In the group made up of people between 40 and 57 years of age, the application of 610,913 first doses and 54,287 second doses were recorded. In this group, the distance between the doses is 12 weeks. For its part, in the group of people between 20 and 39 years old, 573 679 doses have been applied: 507 161 first doses and 66 518 second ones. Finally, in the group of people aged 12 to 19 years, 130,512 first doses and 964 second doses were recorded, for a total of 131,476 doses.

All the data in this cut correspond to what was registered in the Integrated Vaccine System (SIVA) as of Monday, July 19 at noon.

Regarding the regions, the Huetar Norte has a first dose application rate of 41.9 per 100 inhabitants, the Central Pacific 41.7 and the Huetar Atlántica 40.9 being the regions that have the highest first dose indicators.

Nominally, the metropolitan regions are those that have placed the highest number of doses: the Central South registers the placing of 1,053,511 doses, while the Central North 732,426.

Institutional authorities insist that the population maintain preventive measures (hand washing, use of a mask and physical distancing) even if the two doses of vaccine against covid-19 have been received.
