Deaths associated with COVID-19 increase by 12% during epidemiological week 28

San José, Jul 21 (elmundo.cr) – Epidemiological week 28, which ran from July 11 to 17, registered 9,189 cases of covid-19, while week 27, which ran from July 4 to 10, accounted for 9,237 cases. This represents a decrease of 0.5% from week to week, with an average of 1,313 daily cases.

However, in relation to deaths the week of July 4 to 10, it accounted for 83 deaths, while, from July 11 to 17, we added 94 deaths, which gives us a daily average of 13 people who lose their related lives with covid-19 disease, which represents an increase of 12% in the last week.

During epidemiological week 27, the average number of hospitalized cases was 908, while the average for week 28 was 868 admitted cases, showing a 4.4% decrease in total hospitalizations. Regarding new hospital admissions, epidemiological week 27 registered 564 hospital admissions and 523 for epidemiological week 28, which denotes a 7.3% decrease in new admissions.

Specifically today, Tuesday, July 20, 1,354 cases were registered, 9 deaths and 847 people remain hospitalized, 13 in private centers and 834 in the public system, of the total hospitalized, 366 are in the ICU and 481 in the room.

44.7% of the deaths in epidemiological week 28 were registered in the age group 65 years and over, 27.7% in the group 18 to 49 years, 25.5% in the age group 50 to 64 years and 2.1% from 0 to 17 years old. As of July 20, 4,915 accumulated deaths related to covid-19 were recorded.
