(CRHoy.com). The installation of the modular bridge on the bridge over the La Estrella river, in Limón, it was ongoing during this Wednesday.
The initial plan of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MOPT) was to enable the structure on this day, however at about 1:00 pm the entity was not sure of the exact date on which the passage would resume. This was confirmed to CRHoy.com.
The works, accompanied by the National Highway Council (Conavi) and the Board of Port Administration and Economic Development of the Atlantic Slope (Japdeva), lie in the installation of temporary infrastructure at one of the entry points to the bridge.
The pass is located on National Route 36, which communicates the central canton of Limón with the South Caribbean.
The heavy rains that occurred in recent days undermined part of the structure and even caused the detachment of the asphalt layer.
The bridge was classified as “alarming” in an analysis carried out by the National Laboratory of Materials and Structural Models (Lanamme) of the University of Costa Rica (UCR) published in September 2018.
The bridge, built in 1978, had numerous deficiencies pointed out by the laboratory. Among which, the following stood out: absence of terminals and adequate anchoring of the guardrails at the entrances, there were no sidewalks or drainage systems and the barrier used on the bridge did not show to be adequate in the event of vehicular impact (depending on the type of traffic and the speed of travel). the route).
