(CRHoy.com) The National Commission for Vaccination and Epidemiology (CNVE) approved today that, in the event of a shortage of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, the second dose is allowed to be completed with the Pfizer vaccine, according to the scheme in force in the country.
This means that AstraZeneca and Pfizer doses may be mixed if there is no availability in the country due to delays in shipments; this was communicated by the Minister of Health, Daniel Salas.
According to data from the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS), second doses of AstraZeneca are available up to the third week of August.
For now, health authorities are keeping an eye on AstraZeneca’s information on future shipments.
On the other hand, the CNVE indicated that, given the scientific evidence available so far, the established times between the application of the COVID-19 vaccine and any other vaccine are maintained, with a lapse of at least 14 days.
